World Wetlands Day is celebrated internationally on the 2nd of February each year. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (the Ramsar Convention) in Ramsar, Iran, on the 2nd February 1971. The theme for this year’s World Wetlands Day is Wetlands and Tourism – a great experience. Because they are such beautiful places, wetlands are great places to visit. WetlandCare Australia will be celebrating this important day by holding lots of different and exciting events. We will break our record this year by running twelve World Wetlands Day events nationally, and we will also be directly involved with or supporting a further seven.
Many of these events will be being held at our beautiful Coastal 20 sites. The $2.5 million Coastal 20 wetland restoration project is a pivotal initiative that is harnessing the collective knowledge and passion of community, government and industry to undertake the restoration of 20 iconic coastal wetlands spanning 1000km of the southern Queensland and Northern NSW coastlines. The Coastal 20 project is funded by the Australian Government’s Caring for Our Country program.
WetlandCare Australia invites you to come and share a great experience with us at one of our many World Wetland Day events. Visit http://www.wetlandcare.com.au/index.php/news/news-archive/world-wetlands-day-2012/ for more information.
