Things to Do in Balranald:

Balranald is situated where the Sturt Highway crosses the Murrumbidgee River in south western NSW on the expansive plains of the mallee region. Balranald is a service centre for the surrounding irrigation district which has expanded in recent times from traditional agriculture to viticulture, horticulture and tourism. Greenham Park, the recreational heart of the city, has a swimming pool, showers, toilets and a sports ground while the Lions Park in Market St offers picnic, barbecue and playground facilities.

There are five rivers within 30 minutes of Balranald where you will find plenty of good shady fishing spots. If you have time discover the local wildlife along the Ben Scott Balranald Common Bird Trail. Six kilometres west of the town on the Sturt Highway is Low Level Weir, another pleasant spot for barbecues, picnics or fishing. Balranald Island, a few kilometres east of town, is an island in the Murrumbidgee and while there is no public access, it is a significant aboriginal burial site.

Eight kilometres south-east on the Sturt Hwy, you will find Yanga Lake and Yanga Station which is said to be the largest freehold property in the southern hemisphere. 150 kilometres north-west of Balranald is the World Heritage-listed Mungo National Park, where you will be amazed by a spectacular moon type landscape featuring an ancient dry lake bed scattered with crescent shaped dunes for as far as the eye can see.
