Roma's cattle sales, the largest in Australia are held Tuesdays and Thursdays. The raised walkways around the yards provide visitors with an excellent vantage point. In 1900, during the drilling of an artesian water bore, natural gas was discovered for the first time in Australia at historical Hospital Hill, take a self-guided 2km walk which follows a trail of 12 informative plaques and visit Mt Abundance Homestead and MeadowBank Museum, discovering Roma's first settlement.

Stop by the Roma Villa Winery for a tantalising treat. It is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in the state, built in 1878. Sample and buy some of the award winning wines before considering a ride on the ever popular Steam Train the 'Red Robin'. Other points of interest include St Paul's impressive display of 43 leadlight and stained glass windows dating back to 1876, Big Rig and Oil and Gas museum, Carnarvon Gorge and Mount Moffatt National Park.

Be captivated by Roma's history starting with the Courthouse. Take time to reflect on the wonderful perversity of the people of Roma, who unanimously concluded to let a guilty man go free, tried for duffing 1,000 head of cattle. Read the book or view the movie about the infamous trial of Harry Redford, alias "Captain Starlight" in the compelling story of "Robbery Under Arms". Roma cemetery dates back to 1875 and the official town burial records first commenced in 1881.

Visitors to Roma quickly become aware of the numerous bottle trees growing in town, 'Hero's Avenue' consists of more than 100 bottle trees, each representing a local soldier who lost his life in the great war of 1914 - 1918.

The Mandalay Motel is 478 km approx 6 hours 25 mins traveling east along the Warrego Hwy from Brisbane.

Locate KFC Restaurant and turn north towards Injune. Continue along for 100 metres and the Mandalay Motel is situated on your right beside the Mobile Service Station.
