Things to Do in Gympie

Gympie is centrally located with easy access to the beautiful Cooloola National Park, the coastlines of Rainbow Beach and Cooloola Beach, the dolphins of Tin Can Bay, and the hinterland of the Mary Valley. At nearby Lake Alford, feed the ducks in the lake or have a BBQ while the children play in the playground. Enjoy the Country Music Muster every August with the sounds and atmosphere of country music. Mothar Mountain is a 20 minute drive south east of Gympie. The forest provides a pleasant location for picnicking, swimming and bush walking.

The Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum is a tribute to the areas Gold Mining past. Visitors can fossick for gold using the basic implements of pan, pick and shovel. Fossicking permits are required and are available from the Cooloola Region Information Centres. The Woodworks Forestry and Timber Museum has a working replica steam driven sawmill. Take a ride on the restored 1923 Valley Rattler steam train which travels the 40km journey from Gympie to Imbil.
